Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: April 27th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

  1. Good “morning”, Motley Meese! The week begins …

    Morning low of 50 degrees in the Desert Southwest 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 73. Sunny skies are in the forecast.

    Have a great day, all y’alls!!

  2. Good morning. Wow I did a lot yesterday. I still have one dish to cook for next week, but for now I’m just loving the smell of my steeping tea.

  3. Good Sunday morning, Moosekind! It’s a lovely day but WINDY. I don’t know how I’m ever going to arrange the porch furniture or plant anything in my garden if the wind continues to blow at 30 to 40 mph. At the moment in Ashburn we have 53 F., with expectations of 77 F. Harrumph! We did receive .55 inches of rain the other night, which helps the drought a tiny bit.

    We had a sold-out house yesterday evening and we receiving a standing ovation at the end! Wow! Usually Saturday evening audiences are small because many elderly residents totter out to see their offspring off-campus, but last night the theater was packed! One lady going through the reception line said she’d never laughed so much. Another said she loved the music and knew all the songs. Even Dearly Beloved admitted I had done well, and goodness knows he’s not liberal with his compliments in anything that doesn’t involve cooking!

    Daughter and Grandson are driving down from Massachusetts and Ohio respectively this coming week. Daughter will attend the Wednesday matinee and both will attend the Thursday matinee. Elder and Younger Sons will probably be unable to drag themselves away from their kids’ sports games to come and see their ole Maw. It is what it is, as Elder Son is fond of saying. Today is the anniversary of his wedding 12 years ago.

    I have TONS of laundry to do. Need to tidy up this ghastly place as well. I am going to look at the lilacs, wind or no wind, or die in the attempt. I hope the wind hasn’t blown the blossoms away.

    We have a rehearsal tomorrow night, without costumes or makeup—yay! Tuesday’s rehearsal will have costumes and makeup. A week from today it will be OVER and I can get on with my 1,000 writing projects. And go back to the gym!

    Wishing a lovely, quiet day to all at the Pond and healing white light to those in need of it.

    • {{{Diana}}} Glad the show is going so well. Little Theater is very time- and energy-consuming but I certainly thought it was worth it back when I was doing it. (Lights, mostly. Occasionally sound and once or twice stage crew. Nobody ever managed to get me in front of an audience. LOL.)

  4. It’s 65 heading for 80 and overcast again. Yesterday we generated 8 KWHs and the m-t-d at 361 lost more ground. At least we got some rain. Only .4″ inch but still rain.

    Friend of mine who lives in an RV park in Roswell NM called this morning very upset on 2 counts. The personal one is that her lot rent went up $40 and the state’s responding benefit increase was $12. The community one is that a family who’s been in that park for almost 15 years was disappeared last week. Legal residents with long-time jobs and a couple of young kids (who are probably U.S. citizens). Just gone. ICE = SS. Always has been but it’s more blatant now.

    Vacuuming done and breakfast ate. Off to start my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  5. Good morning, 50 and partly cloudy in Bellingham today. I’m feeling both restless and weary this morning so I think I’ll delete the lists in my mind and start over with a reality based plan. Nice to have options, but coffee and a few solitaire games and then I’ll do something. Best wishes to all.

  6. Good morning, meeses! Monday …

    It is 52 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 75. Sunny skies are in the forecast. We have been having as string of nearly perfect days lately – I hope it continues for as long as possible! Soon enough it will be too hot and it will change what we can do and when. The moon was new yesterday and is rising in the ENE sky for the next few days so I should be able to see her thin waxing crescent tomorrow or Wednesday.

    I read some of the news over the weekend, looking for glimmers of hope. There are a few but no enough to resume my daily news consumption. Instead, I am watching the new Arizona women’s basketball coach put together a team after the old coach left and all the existing players except one entered the portal and are now at other schools. She is pretty close to having a full roster and has a nice mix of guards and forwards but the team will be light on experience against Power Four teams, the teams in the big rich athletic conferences. It will fun to watch them play. Also, too, the WNBA teams have been meeting and training and the first preseason games are this upcoming weekend. I am still not sure who I will root for – the changes made to the Phoenix Mercury don’t look very promising and if I am going to root for a loser, I think I would prefer to root for the new Golden State Valkyries team. I purchased the WNBA League Pass for a month to see if it give me the teams I want to watch and will renew it if it does. Last year it was through Amazon Video but this year it is directly through the WNBA so I don’t know what kind of deals they have in place with the actual broadcasters. I guess I will find out!

    See all y’all later!

  7. Good Monday morning, Moosekind! It’s a glorious morning here, still a little chilly at 50 F., but it will go up to 75 F. today. The great thing is no WIND. Went to look at the lilacs yesterday. It’s been so cold for so long that they’ve barely begun to bloom. I’ve never seen them this late before.

    Have to meet S. in the woodworking shop at 10 so I can take a couple of pictures to illustrate my flash-fiction horror story. I swear there’s a device that looks like a miniature guillotine, but S. says it’s not even sharp. Then I have to find a notary public to sign some papers In That Presence, and post them back to the lawyer in Texas. I’ll do it certified mail. Must get hair done this day, because tomorrow I have an audiology appointment at noon and costume rehearsal at the usual time. The costume ladies have promised to bring their phones or cameras and take pictures of us, we look so glamorous!

    Wishing a good day to all at the Pond. Today I had to make the early morning tea, so I haven’t had time to send out love and healing white light yet. My grandson’s fiancee fractured her ankle while they were out of town, so she’s in surgery even as I write. Therefore, Grandson will not be driving down on Thursday to see the play. Bummer.

    Wishing a good day to all at the Pond and healing to all who need it!

    • I replied back. I am looking into it.

      Meese: If you get an email from “auth0.com” – it is NOT from the moose. It is a third party site that wants to authorize your email for gawdonlyknowswhat.

  8. It’s already 71 going to 81 today. Off and on sunny. Yesterday we generated 16.52 KWHs so the m-t-d at 377.8 gained a little ground. It’s still very possible to get over 400 in the 3 production days we have left in April. Of course it’s also very possible to not. We shall see what we shall see.

    Ironic as it may be, the cats really like the Purina Cat Chow Complete. That’s a lower quality/meat-sourced protein food than I really like and wouldn’t have tried it if I weren’t getting desperate. And tired of buying more expensive/higher quality foods and having them not eat it. (Never throw it out, I just mixed the rejected kibbles together and but it outside for neighborhood cats.) But if the guys will eat the Cat Chow Complete, then that’s what they’ll eat – and I need to go get more of it. LOL. Meanwhile I’d best be about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  9. Good morning, 50, cloudy and looking like rain is on the way in Bellingham today. I need to work at my desk today, but I also want to go to Gardens at Padden Creek and say hello to Mary and Wally. They close the shop for the winter so it’s always nice to see them again come spring. They are my best resources for planting large mixed containers but I’m not going to do that this year so I’ll visit them and enjoy seeing what they create. Best wishes to all.

  10. Good morning, meeses! Tuesday …

    It is 54 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 77. Sunny skies are in the forecast.

    In Everything Trump Touches Dies – The Sequel, the Liberal party candidate in Canada won re-election and the MAGAt embracing Conservative leader lost the election and his seat in Parliament. You can push back at an authoritarian and win. I hope that American institutions take note: businesses and the media and law firms and universities, especially private ones, do not need to bend to the will of a nascent dictator; giving in harms all of us. Oh, Canada!

    On the penultimate day of April, I need to put my nose to the grindstone and get accounting done. It is really the last thing I want to do but I don’t get to decide.

    See all y’all later!

    • I am hoping that the “Don’t cancel my healthcare” screams kill this budget bill. I saw a picture on the front page of my local paper with the VA Secretary announcing his 15% cuts to the VA Hospitals and my Republican Congressman standing there looking really really nervous. Cuts in health care PLUS cuts for veterans should (in a fair world), make him lose the next election in a R+.5 district. I guess we will find out.

  12. Good morning. Getting ready for work. Rain chances every day this week, yay! I absolutely am logging off early today to go to kickboxing.

  13. It’s 70 heading for 71 today. Lights are on and the PV system isn’t. Hopefully when we get through this brief spate (widget says it’s raining – not at my housed) the clouds will at least thin out if not go away. Yesterday we generated 12.6 KWHs and the m-t-d at 390 lost ground. We shall see what today brings. Or doesn’t bring.

    The 1st cord of next winter’s firewood is here and neatly stacked on my carport. IF my Social Security comes in as it should in May, I’ll order another cord. But even with what I have right now I’m good through December and maybe January. Which is a relief. Since I had to move the car anyway (for the wood guys to get to the carport) I went ahead and did the Walmart run for kibble. And found the lawn guys mowing when I got back. That’s a busy day for me. LOL. I will have to go out later this week – library and milk – but that’s about it. I think. Meanwhile there are folks who need boosting so I’d best get to it. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Energy for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  14. Good morning, 50 and cloudy in Bellingham today. My intentions were good yesterday but one nap led to another so I’ve got lots of options to keep me busy today. Bri will be here this afternoon so we’ll finish trimming the ivy and get started on the aspen shoots. Then if time and energy allows we’ll move some hostas and ferns that are growing where the barbeque will move to. Best wishes to all.

  15. Wednesday Meese. Will be 60 and cloudy here in Kingston today.

  16. Good morning. Heading to the doctor’s office for my annual physical. I took the whole day off so I don’t have to work after, and I will go to kickboxing this afternoon. Hope everyone has a good day!
