Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.
Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).
The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.
So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?
…
NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

Good “morning”, Motley Meese! The week begins …
Morning low of 61 degrees in the Desert Southwest 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 81. Sunny skies are in the forecast.
Have a great day, all y’alls!!
Good Sunday Meese. Finally isn’t raining here – for the next three days. I’m relaxing enjoying the start of the WNBA basketball season (my home team the NY Liberty played great yesterday)
Puerto Rico
In case you missed Mariposa’s Vieques diary
The Phoenix Mercury had a surprising win and, more importantly, were fun to watch. If I were Angel Reese, I would refuse to play basketball on the same court as Caitlyn Clark. There is no one who will rein her in and get her to tone down her out and proud racism. It is dangerous and someone is going to get hurt.

Good morning. Not much to say, tea is steeping, local news is on. Hope everyone has a good day.
It’s 60 right now heading for 79 very dark and rainy. The lights are on & the PV system isn’t. Yesterday we generated 19.59 KWHs and the m-t-d at 273.7 gained at little. Which it’s going to lose today, and a lot more. Sigh.
Got the vacuuming and dusting done. Will put clean sheets on the bed later. Will be baking cherry walnut muffin bread later too. And hope it won’t heat up the kitchen uncomfortably. Anyway, off to start my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good Sunday afternoon, Moosekind! What with making Sunday breakfast and then watching F1, haven’t got much done today.
The weather can’t make up its mind. Sunny or cloudy? Definitely windy, which of course I deplore. I’m not cleaning up the screened porch and arranging the furniture until we have some wind-free weeks. Right now in Ashburn it’s 72, going up to 77 F. I hear.
My little play went off all right yesterday except for one glitch: one actress blanked out on her cue. Well, uh, that’s why for a show that people actually pay money to see, we rehearse for months beforehand. Have ideas for three more Reader Theater plays.
Words, I’m glad to hear you’re a bit better. Inks, I notice your city is going to be a bit cooler. Bet that’s a relief! Yesterday evening I went next door to see “The Dead Poets Society.” Wow! That poor boy. You know, if the story had been set 10 years later, he’d have just gone to San Fran and become a hippie.
I did enough laundry yesterday so that it wouldn’t escape the hamper and begin crawling toward the kitchen. Today I need to focus on writing. Got three projects going now—the article, the monologue, and now one writer wants us to write song lyrics for June’s assignment. I’m not musical, so unless I can hear an already composed tune in my head, I can’t write the lyrics for it. And when I do, they come out monstrously clicheed. Is that a word? Got to start thinking about Dearly’s lunch.
Wishing a good day to all at the Pond!
Good afternoon, 56 and partly sunny outside my windows. I have a collection of TJ’s orchids growing on a window seat in an upstairs bedroom and the one blooming again is lovely…..large white flowers with a hint of creamy yellow. Seems like a gift when the plants bloom again, and the upstairs garden is easy to tend so it’s a year around pleasure. Time to do a bit in the outdoor garden and then help Ron with tonight’s taco dinner. Best wishes to all.
Monday Meese. No rain today! Yay.
Puerto Ricans – an interesting piece of history I didn’t know:
Good morning. Monday, ugh. Hot & humid walk, even at 5:30am. Brain not entirely engaged yet, so not much to say.
Good Monday morning, Moosekind! It’s sunny and 64 F. here, but windy again. Our high today will be 77 F. and the same again tomorrow, but the rest of the week we’ll be wearing sweaters and jeans again instead of t-shirts and shorts.
Just read in the newspooper that Melon and the Felon cut off funding for the local food banks with NO notice or explanation. The food banks had ordered 12,000 meals and now don’t know what to do. I’m going to ask the head of the garden club, if I’m lucky enough to get a bunch of tomatoes, whether I can donate them to the food bank and how to do that.
In other news, I did hardly anything but sleep and eat yesterday. Am I slowing down? Weird. The IT guy, who did not arrive on Friday, is supposed to show up between 9 and 11 today. I have an article to work on. It will take a bit of thinking. Madame La Directrice has a powerful resume, but I have to write from a community point of view. Oh, well, I’ll think of something.
It didn’t rain this weekend and we don’t expect any until Wednesday, so I need to go to the garden and water said tomatoes. The food bank can have ALL the Romas.
Wishing a good day to all at the Pond.
Tons of food intended for USAID recipients is mouldering in warehouses thanks to Melon and the cowardly Rubio. And the Republican Congress just voted to cut SNAP funds so that rich guys could have more money in their pockets. Maybe they hope we all die before the next election because they surely have to expect that what they are doing is not going to be popular.
It’s 73 overcast and very muggy. The day started out very sunny and bright but the clouds had moved in by 8:30. Yesterday we generated 4.28 KWHs which is actually surprising considering how dark it was. The m-t-d at 278.57 is not on track, lost ground, and looks like it may lose more today. sigh.
If I’d known it was going to stay below 70 yesterday I might have had a fire and done my laundry. But the widget kept saying it was going to get to 80 by late afternoon. I’m going to give today a miss but I think, whatever the temps are tomorrow I’m doing laundry. Probably inside with a fire to dry it. I did bake walnut-cherry muffin bread yesterday afternoon. Anyway, time to get to my boosting. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good morning, 49 and cloudy outside my windows today. Reading the news is depressing so I’m going to find my gardening clothes and dig in the dirt. Encouraging pansies to grow and flower is my antidote to being continually upset re the mess our country is in. As always, my best wishes to all.
Good morning, meeses! Monday …
My weather widget says that it is 73 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 84. In real life, it is already 84 and sunny. I saw the waning moon this morning, she is about half illuminated. We appear to be headed for a stretch of hot weather so the weekend’s cool mornings may soon be a distant memory.
I am sorry to hear that Joe Biden is ill and will likely have to have a state funeral run by the Felon and his MAGAts. Sadly his legacy will be Clarence Thomas and his insistence that Only He Can Fix It which deprived Democrats of a presidential primary and a shortened general election season that left the door open for the Republican lie machine to paint our eventual nominee in any way they wanted to.
I have a lot of things to do and need to prep for an afternoon teleconference.
See all y’all later!
Tuesday Meese. Suns not up yet, and we have a rain free day today – it starts again tomorrow and will continue into next week.
Puerto Rico
Good morning. Grateful that it won’t be over 100 today (in May!). Getting ready for work. Have a good Tuesday.
It’s 65 heading for 74 and off-and-on overcast. At least the PV system is on. We generated 5.23 KWHs yesterday. The m-t-d at 283.65 lost more ground. And looks like it may lose more today. We shall see.
We had a very exciting hour between 7 & 8 pm last night. Very dark, windy, pouring rain, and tornado alerts via phone, text, and city sirens. The city sirens told me there was at least one funnel cloud sighted in Fayetteville itself and not just out in the county somewhere. Suzanne and I emailed back and forth until the alert was over. The cats were a little antsy but I don’t know if it was the noise and picking up cues from me or if they actually felt the weather threat. Anyway, wherever it was, it wasn’t near enough to me to see or hear it. And the only damage close enough for me to see on my block is that my roses got flattened. Anyway, off to start my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
{{{bfitz!}}} Glad it wasn’t any worse! Must have been scary, though. The damage in Kentucky was terrible.
{{{Diana}}} It was, a bit. I don’t know how bad it was around me but the storm was strong and moving east fast.
Good Tuesday morning, Meese! It’s 58 F. here, going up into the 70s later, and it’s currently sunny and blue-skied. The woods across the way are fully dressed in their fine spring greenery. Tonight it’s supposed to rain; allegedly the rain will continue all day tomorrow. Good. Our deficit is now only 4 inches, so this new lot should reduce it even further.
Feeling perkier today, now that my feet have stopped hurting. Have to run and get my hair done, so must be quick about posting. The UU dinner last night was El Boringo. No one seemed to want to discuss anything, even though we’re all lib’ruls. I might have to stop attending these dinners if they’re going to be that boring.
I think I have a handle on the interview with Madame La Directrice on Thursday. I’ve set up the photographer to join us. On another subject, I happened to encounter my co-priestess, who said she wouldn’t be able to participate in the Summer Solstice ritual because she’ll be away. SCREECH! She did promise to find a couple of helpers. Last year she made coronets of fresh flowers for us to wear for the ritual—it was great!
In other news, two people have asked to join the roster for Reader Theater at the Drama Club meetings. I guess they were tickled when I wore the black beret, the white shirt and red satin bow tie, and clapped the clapboard. The club has five more meetings this year, so I have five more plays to write. This is very good experience for me.
What else—oh, the annoyance! Yesterday I actually got my act together to been seen in public before 10 a.m., with the intention of going to the community garden to water my tomatoes. There was no water! Bloody h*ll. I had to slink back home without the good feeling of actually Having Performed a Beneficial Act. And tonight it’s supposed to rain, so if I water again, won’t that be overkill?
Anyway, that’s enough from me. Wishing all at the Pond a good day, and wishing that Melon, the Felon, Vance-Can’t-Keep-It-in-His-Pants, and Mikey will all climb aboard Starlink, take off, and never be seen in this troposphere again.
Good morning, meeses! Tuesday …
It is 84 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 91. Sunny skies are in the forecast. This morning I saw the nearly perfect third quarter moon, at 50.2% illumination, in the morning sky. She was bathing the green space with light!
I had morning errands to run so I am going to check in but pass on the news. The only thing I am tracking is the Hate People Act wending its way through the House. It will likely pass because people who need health care and food stamps and a place to live don’t have lobbyists working for them but the Richie Riches who want tax cuts do. Bastids.
See all y’all later!
Good afternoon, 49 and cloudy but it’s not raining so I hope to stay relatively dry while working in the garden later. I’ve been sorting out hoses this morning as the ones we have been using are heavy and stiff and our old hands and arms need lighter and more flexible hoses now. My garden continues to give me a needed distraction from the felon and the mess his voters support. Best wishes to all.
Good morning. Nothing much going on here. The Lege has some pretty awful bills, but when don’t they? The 10 Commandments in every classroom in Texas, no exceptions is among the least stupid/offensive ones. Sigh, they’ll be done soon, just hope they can’t get to all the harm they want to do.
I hope this burning need by Republicans to turn America into a white christian nation sparks a backlash. It is distressing to think about the millions of school children who aren’t christian having the majority religion forced on them. I wonder if the Puritans, fleeing the Old World for a place where they could have the right to worship as they chose to would be horrified. Probably not, quite a few people who supposedly embrace religious freedom are actually embracing the right to have their religion be the dominant one.
