Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: May 31st

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

  1. Good morning. We had loud thunderstorms last night, quite exciting. Getting ready for work. I hope people living where there were primaries yesterday had good outcomes.

  2. It’s 67 heading for 86 – less humid today so heat index’s about the same – and sunny at the moment. Yesterday we generated 14.41 KWHs and the m-t-d at 34.4 is on track for the “over 500” goal.

    Basket got safely home by yesterday afternoon. Apparently the winds were so high at SFO that the flights were severely limited. He spent the night in KC, made his 6 am flight to Denver, then the flight & got into SFO close to noon. The final leg – to Sacramento was short with no issues. I think once he convinced the cats that it really was him, he slept most of the rest of the afternoon.

    House is open. We’ll have to close up in an hour or so but it’s nice to get fresh air in the house. Yesterday was weird. My thread at Xitter was seriously welcomed back by the folks who noticed – and at least 20 folks noticed. Aji made a point of coming to Xitter to tell me she knew about it and that the “outrage is gratifying”. Several other folks who post in both places said similar things. I hope that translates to being reinstated. I may try to sign in this morning and see what happens. But as long as I have Xitter I can still keep boosting folks. Even some of the same folks. There are a few folks I need to look for at Xitter, hoping they’re still there and at least occasionally check in. We shall see what life brings next. At least when DK banned me I could get into my stream (that doesn’t exist on the new site) and see what & how folks I followed (who were not carried over to the new site) were doing. I could & can still search for folks I wanted to check on and all that. Can’t do that on Bluesky. sigh. But I’d best be about my boosting day. I need to adjust the wording of my MA thread at Xitter. What I put up yesterday was very truncated. I think I’ll leave it shorter than it was, but I want to flesh it out a little more. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  3. Good Wednesday morning, Moosekind! It’s another beautiful day here, 65 F. right now, going up to 80 F.

    My theatrical colleague and I went for a walk last night—very enjoyable—and today my BFF, another theatrical colleague, are going for a walk at 1 p.m. We’ll look like French fries by the time we get back. Nora’s coming over for dinner. Received her school photos yesterday: the child gets more beautiful every year.

    Very happy about Becerra and Bass in California! The Dems generally seem to have done well. Feeling devastated that Peabo Bryson died. Loved that guy. He and Roberta Flack sang one of the most beautiful songs ever, “Tonight I celebrate my love for you.” Sometimes I watch the video of them singing that just to relive the days when I was running around Dayton and Princeton, NJ, back in the 80’s, attending computer school. Too bad it went in one ear and out the other!

    Hope to actually get things done. Woke up with a fresh store of energy, now to make use of it. Wishing a good day to all at the Pond!

  4. Good morning, 62 and cloudy in Bellingham. My tooth misery is much better today, yay! I have one more day of antibiotics and then I should be back to my grouchy arthritic self. The pain meds gave me some much needed relief from all pain…..how I wish there was a daily med safe for ongoing pain treatment but for now it’s just cope the best I can. Oh well, life does go on and for that I am grateful. Best wishes to all.

  5. Good afternoon, meeses! Wednesday …

    It has been over 100 degrees most of the day, I think unexpectedly. I got my short walk in at 90 degrees and had a short but pleasant dip in the pool. I need to get the right kind of floating device that lets me propel myself around so I can get some exercise in. I tried noodles but I need three to hold me up so they are always sliding out. I should stop at the pool store to see what they have. I am a little sick of ordering stuff online and having to return it. Some things you need to touch and feel but big box stores don’t keep much inventory.

    I got one project done today and I really need to get two more done tomorrow morning. There must be a sluggishness transit in my horoscope because nothing seems easy lately.

    See all y’all later!

    • Jan, when I was going to the PT pool the noodle was wrapped around my back and under my arms. That was I was supported to bicycle and or walk with the support I needed. I could lean back and move my legs.

      • I went to the pool store today and did not find anything better than what I have. The boards will be too big by the time they are big enough to hold me up. I did see bigger noodles so maybe I will buy two bigger ones so I am not trying to keep three together.

        Exercising in the pool is easier than walking.

  6. Thursday Meese. Gonna be 88 here in Kingston today

  7. Good morning. In the office, and we have Important People visiting the building today. Sigh. They may or may not make it to my floor, but all the honchos are nervous. I just wanna do my work and go home.

  8. 1st thing – Diana emailed me that she can’t get in. Tried 4 times and it’s just not going.

    It’s 76 heading for 84, sunny at the moment but clouds moving in. Yesterday we generated 16.71 KWHs and the m-t-d at 51.01 lost a bit of ground.

    Excitement or something. Termite inspector came yesterday and couldn’t do the inspection because there’s a “sewage” leak under the house. She thought she saw feces so. . . My old plumber didn’t get back to me until 4 pm to say he’s retired. We did some onlines searches, checking ratings & recommendations, made some calls. Considering the circumstances the company we finally chose worked us in by showing up at 7 am, an hour before they usually “open”. Thank heavens not feces, the lines from the bathrooms are fine. But the old cast iron pipe from the kitchen (sink and washing machine) are rusted through. It’s going to be very expensive to deal with but it’s scheduled for late next week. That’s good that while it will take a whole lot of labor to do it, it’s a fairly simple propostion.

    AND – Bluesky just reinstated me. So I have a whole lot of boosting to do. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

    • Bummer regarding plumbing issues, yay for Bluesky reinstatement. They may not have refined their methodology yet to deal with disruptive people and are sweeping up people who may be annoying to someone (you boosting, for example) with nazis. I know that the King of the Orange Place used to bring the ban hammer down on people if his pets were annoyed.

      • Bluesky is worse than DK. At least Kos is a human being. Bluesky is using AI moderation. They only walk it back if enough ruckus is raised that a human decides they’d better take a look. And I am so very honored that so many people joined to raise that much ruckus for me.

    • When I connect to my computer tomorrow morning, I will clear the cache and log Diana out of all her devices. That should start her with a clean slate.

    • I sent Diana an email and am waiting for a reply before I send her the password reset. I don’t want to send it to the wrong place!

  9. Good afternoon, meese! Thursday …

    It is 104 degrees in the sun but fortunately I am indoors. I did have to run errands today as I had some clothing I needed to return and a prescription to pick up.

    I had hoped to sit with my feet up and watch a sporting event this afternoon but the sporting event stopped being entertaining when they were losing badly so I got a project done. Add that to the two I completed this morning and I am down to one major one to do tomorrow morning. I can’t believe tomorrow is already Friday.

    See all y’all later!

  10. Friday Meese. Gonna Be 91 here today. Ugh

  11. Good morning, meeses! Friday …

    It is 73 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 99. Sunny skies are in the forecast. The waning gibbous moon (at 77% illumination) is still high in the southern sky. She has been visible every morning all week and it is very comforting.

    I don’t know what to make of the sudden “resistance” from Republican electeds to the tRump agenda. One thing I am fairly certain of is that it does not mean they will not follow him off the cliff if asked to. I hope the voters can see through the words and remember the deeds and vote appropriately this fall. I finally saw some street corner signs for the woman who will be defeating the despicable Juan Ciscomani for Arizona CD6 this fall. Her name is Joanna Mendoza and her bio says “proud mom, dedicated lifelong public servant, and retired United States Marine“. She is getting all the endorsements from Democratic electeds here. I am so glad that they are not running out retreads again. I may check in after the primary and see if she needs someone to stuff envelopes.

    I have a busy day trying to get done the things that were set aside during the multiple interruptions I had this past week.

    See all y’all later!

  12. It’s 73 going to 82 and sunny at the moment but clouds are already moving in from the west. Sigh. Yesterday we generated 13.82 KWHs and the m-t-d at 64.83 lost more ground.

    Suzanne/aashirs nani is hearing from what she considers dependable sources (not preppers) that there will be food shortages and sky-high prices by end of summer as everybody’s warehouses empty out and diddly gets through the Strait because of twittler’s self-aggrandizing war. (How else can he give himself “war powers” if we’re not at war?) So she’s stocking up on everything she can get her hands on. I believe the prices will go up. But while the Strait is the shortest and safest sea route it isn’t the only sea route so I’m betting real shortages will be of brands and not categories of food. Although the gougers may pretend there is as an excuse for gouging. Sigh.

    Yesterday was gratifying and exhausting. So many people stepped up at Bluesky to get me back. I’m honored. But catching up with all the boosting at Bluesky and Xitter – because they were so happy to have me back I’m not leaving them again – took more hours than I’m usually online and even then I didn’t get to quite all of Aji’s or any of Dee’s (except what she’d posted in here). Hopefully I’m enough caught up that I can get to everything today with my usual allotted hours. And I’d best get to it. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  14. Good morning. Mapping out my day to get all the housework done and a trip to the gym to lift weights. And I need to do more surveys, have been falling short this past week.

  15. It’s 70 heading for 78, already overcast, supposed to start raining very shortly. Of course it was supposed to have rained overnight but it didn’t. Yesterday we generated 10.18 KWHs and the m-t-d at 75.01 lost more ground.

    Creating a new routine is not easy. But since I’m running threads at both Xitter and Bluesky, I have to create a new routine. At the same time that I’ve got a new household routine whether I like it or not. Basin in the kitchen sink to catch everything that normally goes down the drain. Empty said basin outside when it about half full so I don’t spill it all over the floor getting outside. But at least that should be a done deal by next weekend. Meanwhile, off to start my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  16. Good morning, Meeses! Saturday …

    It is 72 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 99. Sunny skies are in the forecast. The beginning of the hot weather requires some adjustments that I am hesitant to incorporate. I should take my walk earlier but if it is too early I am sharing the outdoors with the desert creatures and would need to do sidewalks only to avoid them. I really like my walks on the dirt trails. I am also working on early morning projects that I hate to break from because it is too easy to lose my train of thought. I will sort it out eventually but right now things are in a state of flux.

    I hope there is a way to stop the things that the orange seeping pustule is doing to Washington DC. A lot of the monuments there are to slaveholders and but some are to slave freers and those who fought to make people’s lives better as well as those who died fighting to preserve freedom here and in the handful of Good Wars. To build a freaking Arc de Trumpism and an embarrassing gilded ballroom towering over the White House is disgusting. The Founding Fathers – clearly some Founding Mothers would have been better – really screwed up by not giving We The People, directly, not through partisan politicians whose nests are feathered by the destroyers, the ability to remove a president who has broken his oath and turned the federal government into a grift mill for him, his family and those who would buy favor. I am going to block out all the 250 year celebrations of a document, the Declaration of Independence, that has been shat on for most of this century by the Republican Party. All men are not created equal in the dystopia created by Republican Supreme Courts, the Republican presidents and the Republican Congresses. I have no pride in what we have become.

    Last night I watched two very good WNBA basketball games, both of which went down to the wire. In the first game, I had no favorite but in the second game, the Dallas Wings prevailed over the Los Angeles Sparks. I root for players on both teams but the Wings team is on my list of favorites. Today the racist enabling Indiana Fever will play the New York Liberty in New York. I am rooting for New York but I may not watch the game because is is so infuriating watching the Fever. At least it won’t be on the Indiana home court with an arena filled with racists and haters.

    See all y’all later!

  17. TECH NOTE:
    – WordPress 7.0 has been released and at some point I will have to install it (before it installs itself unexpectedly) and hope that the site does not need a lot of remediation to keep running. I have weekend plans for both June 19 through June 22 and July 3 through July 6 so I have selected next Saturday, June 13th to try the installation beginning at around noon MST.
    I will post something in both the Friday June 12th Welcomings and the Saturday June 13th Welcomings to remind everyone.
    – If the site is down for you, the best way to reach me is via BlueSky direct messages where I can interact with status updates. I only check my email once a week.

    • Well, so much for that. The WordPress 7.0 had installed itself and thankfully it did not destroy the site. Apparently the site is set up to “always install new releases that include important security changes” so it was out of my hands.

      I thought something seemed odd this morning, the colors changed ever so slightly and things shifted.

      Cancel the TECH ALERT and carry on!

  18. AT LAST!

    Thanks to BlogGodddess Jan’s efforts and alerts from our bfitz, I am now finally able to get in. Unfortunately, I have nothing much to say. It’s 80 F. in Ashburned at 9:15 on the anniversary of D-Day, Operation Overlord. I feel too tired after being hacked to do anything much except have another cup of coffee, so I’m going to do that.

    When I heard that Mango’s “Department of Injustice” say they could bulldoze the STATUE of LIBERTY I just wanted to bomb them all. Fer Gawd’s sake, the Statue of Liberty! Apparently he’s dying of acute venous something, don’t know quite what.

    • Not acute enough. Although JD Vance will be no prize. Did you see what he said about Europe’s white people ruining their civilizations by allowing immigration and, apparently, the mixing of the races? He was referring to a man, Nowak, who was killed by a man who was born British but sadly, according to Vance, non-white:

      “Nowak would still be alive today if the last few generations of European elites had stood their ground against the politics of self-hatred and the mass invasion of migrants”.

    • I am glad you got back in! I have a suggestion regarding how to avoid losing posts. What I do is when I have my post ready to go, or have put considerable effort into it, I do a right-click on the comment box, choose Select All, then choose Copy. That puts my words into the paste buffer where, if the comment disappears when I post it or disappears because I click an errant button, it can be recovered from the paste buffer by doing a right-click paste. I had to do that this morning because the site decided to ignore my saved login and logged me out. I was able to log back in, click to open a new Comment box and paste my extremely valuable and insightful words back into it. :)
