Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).
The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.
So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?
…
NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

Good “morning”, Motley Meese! The week begins …
Morning low of 46 degrees in the Desert Southwest 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 75. Mostly sunny skies are in the forecast.
Have a great day, all y’alls!!
Good morning. Last freeze for a while. I’ll uncover my plants this afternoon. For now, tea is steeping and I’m savoring the Democratic victory in Tarrant County. They are deep crimson red up there, so this is pretty amazing.

It’s 17 wind chill 7 heading for 41 wind chill 31 and sunny. There’s still some snow on the panels but we managed to generate 4.2 KWHs and wrapped January up with 163 – not goal of course but not the worst we’ve ever done either. Third from the bottom still isn’t bottom. The best we’ve ever done for February is 310 and the worst is 125. The rest was to one side or the other of 200 so the “realistic” goal for February is 200. We shall see what we shall see.
I know the moon’s not totally full yet but she’ll be where I can’t see her when she is and she looked pretty darned full at 6 am this morning. And lovely of course.
I haven’t done a serious vacuuming of the house in months and I’m probably not going to today either but I am planning on doing some cooking. I’ve a bit of lemon juice and rind in the fridge that I’m going to use in something that won’t be as sweet as a cake but will be sweeter than my usual muffin recipe and call it a cake. LOL. And make a batch of Mexican rice-refried bean soup for dinner. Meanwhile I have boosting to do. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
She will be full here at 3:09pm MST but we won’t see her until moon rise which is 5:58pm + about 35 to 40 minutes to clear the mountains. She was very full-ish last night and was huge this morning in the western sky.
Good Sunday morning, Moosekind, and a blessed Imbolc to you.
Whaddaya know, got into the Moose Pond on my fifth try! This time I typed it into the address bar rather than relying on a bookmark.
Last evening, when Elaine and I were having dinner in the clubhouse, I saw the beautiful moon, looking frosty-white but a bit fuzzy around the edges. I’ll look again tonight, since this is the actual Snow Moon. It’s bitterly cold, ugh, but sunny. Right
Mysterious Happening No. 532: When I arrived home last night from watching a movie I did not care for at all (“Annie Hall”), there was a mysterious package waiting for me. Knowing I hadn’t ordered anything from that company because I’m on an Amazon diet, I didn’t open it right away. Well, this morning I ripped off the outer wrapping to discover a box about 9″ x 9″ and 5″ deep. It’s quite heavy. Apparently it’s a gift from someone named Nausheen at Capital One bank. The message reads, “Thinking of you and sending my deepest condolences. Sincere Regards, Nausheen, 1YT760 from Capital One.”
Say whut? I don’t anyone of that name. It’s true I’ve had a few interactions with personnel at that bank: for example, I showed them Dearly’s death certificate, and they said since it was a joint account, it was not necessary to do anything.
Should I open the box or no? It’s carefully wrapped with a layer of bubble wrap and weighs more than a pair of stockings or a set of dish towels.
Must start on my day. Wishing a good day to all at the Pond!
That would certainly be a nice gesture from your banker but I think I would have someone else open it for me or at least witness me opening it. I have heard of people getting “tracking devices” in boxes and not realizing that they triggered it. That said it is probably just some treats and you can bring them to your next rehearsal and share with your peeps.
Usually the requirement for multiple sign-ins is the result of old cookies muddling things. If you are not starting with a freshly opened browser, there can be snippets of files and instructions lurking in the workspaces of your computer confusing the login. Also, you are correct to avoid links – they very often bring expired login credentials with them.
Good morning 49 and raining outside my windows today. We were at a memorial service for an old friend yesterday, so it was a day full of memories. Best wishes to all.
Good monday folks. Minus one here in Kingston NY. :(
Brrr! Stay warm. I was watching the crazy national weather and BLIZZARDS off the coast of the Carolinas for crying out loud! I remember mid-January to mid-February being the most difficult part of winter and trying to schedule my warm weather winter vacations during that time. I am not sure where people would even go.
Yay for Bad Bunny
Puerto Rico/Puerto Ricans
Good luck to Bad Bunny during this Super Bowl week! Goddess protect all who are protesting the federal government’s inhumane treatment of people of color and immigrants. May history remember those who enabled this – Supreme Court justices, Senators of both parties who approved putting the worst people possible in positions of power and the disgusting traditional media with their acquiescence to the rotted pumpkin – and forever curse their names.
Good morning, meeses! Monday … Spring is in the Air!
It is 55 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 75. Sunny skies are in the forecast. This week we will see highs in the mid to upper 70s and overnight lows around 50. Meteorological Spring pretty much starts here in February. Soon we will start seeing some of the hibernating critters like the lizards emerge.
A friend sent me this, related to the full moon, from a spiritual site:
I second this! Calendar year 2025 needs to be burned and the ashes scattered. I like the visualization of shedding the emotional weights and closing old chapters. I have high hopes for 2026, the calendar year, the moon year, and the circle of the earth year.
See all y’all later!
Good morning. I’m back to my routine of walking before work. If I’m awake at 4, might as well. Anyway, here I am, in the office. I hope nothing awful happens today.
It’s 30 heading for 58 not much wind and sunny at the moment. There’s still a enough snow on the panels to be the equivalent of 3 out of action. But the snow should/will be gone by end of day. Yesterday we generated 6.4 KWHs so we’re not on track but it’s early days yet.
The Winter’s Ending-Spring’s Coming dance of the years starts at Imbolc. Always. No matter what good or evil human kind are up to, the dance always starts. Blessed Be.
Off to start my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good Monday morning, Moosekind! Today I had to get ready to hurry off to a music rehearsal in Dave’s apartment. He played guitar and Mike and I sang the song. Dear Goddess, PUL-EEZE don’t let me make a fool of myself tomorrow night! Both Dave and Mike are very kind.
BTW, it’s 29 F. and beautifully clear here in Ashburn. We’re supposed to get four-lettr word tomorrow night, not sure that will actually happen.
Have a dinner date at 5, so I’d better do whatever I need to do before then. It’s in the restaurant where I can see the Moon. Lovely!
Still need to call the Consolation Line and find out whereinell my United Airlines insurance bennies have got to. I’ll get my Congressperson on it if I have to.
Time for a nap. I sleep very badly because of the neuropathy in my feet. This morning Aspercreme seemed to do the trick. Wishing a good day to all at the Pond.
Good morning. Weirdly warm — yesterday I wore hat & gloves, it’s 62 now. Ah, the roller coaster of Texas winter.
Good Tuesday morning, Meese! It’s 22 F., going up to 38 F., and cloudy in Ashburnikins. The snowcrete shows no sign of melting. I have to get ready to go to a balance class at 10.
I really shot myself in the foot: anxious to avoid a Sunday date with Swain No. 1, who gets on my LAST nerve, I made plans for Sunday night with an old friend, involving pizza and nonalky beer. Turns out she hates the SuperBowl and wants to watch the Olympics! Oh, gods, well, at least I’ll get to watch the highlights on every newscast the next day. The end of the Kennedy Center has been predicted in the morning paper. Can’t someone in Florida grab a female python from the Everglades and ask it to predict the end of Mango Mussolini?
Forgot to tell you I did open the mystery package and found it full of comforts for women. Will describe later.
That sounds scary!!!
It’s 48 heading for 49 and is trying to clear off. The snow was totally off the PV panels by midmorning yesterday and we generated 9.6 KWHs. That put the m-t-d at 16 which is on track. Early days yet. We shall see what today brings.
Global warming is climate weirding. At least the next 2 overnights are below freezing – barely – but the rest of the 10-day forecast have them in the 40s. And the highs starting Thursday are in the 60s. We’re going to have whatever actually went dormant this winter breaking dormancy. And then get frozen to death with a later hard freeze. Climate Collapse indeed. But the moon is beautiful and that never changes.
Off to start my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good afternoon, meeses! Tuesday …
It is 75 and sunny, a lovely day for a walk in the park which I took!
I had a meeting this morning that threw off my schedule which makes me cranky. I think tomorrow will be quieter and should give me time to get a pesky and boring task off my to do list.
See all y’all tomorrow!
Good morning/night Meese. 19 degrees here in Kingston.
Puerto Rico
Good morning. I have got to get some exercise today. For now, I’m watching local news and getting ready for work. Gov. Abbott and the Tx Education Agency are threatening local school districts after student walkouts over the ICE murders. Because of course they are.
It’s 31 wind chill 25 heading for 43 wind chill 33 and overcast. Yesterday we did the best single day so far this year, generating 10.26 KWHs. The m-t-d is 26.32 and definitely on track. Which it’s not likely to be by end of day unless the clouds go away. Sigh.
I spent last evening researching the candidates for the March 3rd primary and nonpartisan (mostly judges) election. I already knew about the ballot issues so didn’t have to do anything for those. While it’s true that a candidate’s website is going to present what they think is important to the votes they’re trying to get, you can tell an awful lot about the voters they’re trying to reach. And whether or not I’m one of them. (Hint: god & patriotism isn’t likely to get my vote.) But I have my “roster” written down so I don’t forget.
Hope I hear from the shop about my car today. Meanwhile I’d best be about my boosting. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good Wednesday morning, Moosekind! It’s clear and 30 F. in Ashburn, heading for 32 F.
My Wednesday is OK so far, enjoying my coffee, and I don’t have to rush through it! I get to drink it ALL. Have an interview this morning at 11, but luckily it’s close by.
Re last night: We Got Through It! I wore my red dress with the new gold buttons, my sparkly red headband trimmed with fake diamonds (or real rhinestones, however you care to look at it), and Joan Upstairs’ gold earrings. My date and my co-singer and his wife kept reassuring me that I’d do fine. Well, at least I didn’t trip, stumble, and fall when Mike grabbed my hand and hauled me onto the stage. He was in good form but apparently I didn’t hold the mic close enough for people to hear me. (Just as well, really.) Anyway, we loved the song, “I’m So Happy Just to Dance with You.” George Harrison was so underrated in those days.
Anyway, after that rather strenuous balance and strength class yesterday morning and dancing last night, I came home exhausted. We have rehearsal tonight, so there are lines to study. All the weather people got hysterical about the expected snow during the night, but? Nary a flake. They did not apologize for causing school systems to worriedly close or open two hours late. They never do.
More coffee! Then to get on with my day. Wishing a good day to all at the Pond!
P.S. The comforts for women in the box were a pair of warm woolly socks, which I can always use; a plastic clip shaped like a daisy; a tube of lip balm; a glass jar prettily painted with daisies (what’s it for?); a cake of something like a bath fizzer; a scented candle, which I can’t use (we’re not allowed them, old people often being so vague that we inadvertently set our hair on fire), a little squeezable green knitted toy for good luck; and some packets of cucumber facial mask and rice facial brightening mask. I can give some of these to Nora. All were enclosed in a very pretty pale green box painted with white daisies. I’d like to thank “Nausheen” but without a last name, I’m a bit stymied. The Post Office doesn’t like it when you only put one name on an envelope. Anyway, very kind of her, but strange of the bank, is it not? I did receive an unexpected bouquet of flowers from a hairdressing salon many years ago after I and several others were held up at gunpoint, but that’s the only other time an establishment has sent me a present.
