Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: March 22nd

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

  2. Good morning, meeses! Wednesday …

    It is 81 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 91. Sunny skies are in the forecast. The moon is a waxing crescent and has been visible in the late afternoon and evening.

    I am glad that I have no trips planned – it sounds like air travel is going from bad to worse as hateful guys with machine guns and masks are now going to man the empty TSA booths with people not getting paid finally getting fed up. What could go wrong? Why do people put up with the terrible federal government services that are a feature of Republican administrations? I hope there is a huge buyers remorse vote in November – if we are allowed to vote.

    I have a gigantic stack of notes from projects I have been working on for the past week but which I did not have time to document and store. I need to finish it so that I can find the notes on the next project I should be working on. Major League Baseball starts a new season today with most teams playing tomorrow and Friday. I want to watch it live but I already have too many things starting to insinuate themselves into my schedule! Maybe I can ignore them.

    See all y’all later!

  3. Good morning, 44 and cloudy in Bellingham. I’ve been distracted with house and garden chores and the resulting recovery naps. But the sewer line is cleared again and I have the name of a firm that relines old pipes so I need to get that underway. My son helped me drain the sour water out of several patio pots and today I need to add some dry soil so the roots can recover. Bri will be here later today to make a pruning plan, and then she and her new employees can just proceed as needed. I’ve been slow to change gears but it’s time to move most of the garden to maintenance mode so there is less ongoing work to do. Ron is working on the veggie garden, but he is slowing down as well so we’re moving plants to pots, digging up the planting beds and making a weed barrier, adding mulch so the pathways are less muddy, etc. The soil is still to wet and soggy to plant but the prep work needs to be done now. We decided to age in place, but now we need to make reality easier to manage. Best wishes to all.

  4. Good morning. Walked my mile & a half. In the office, there is not enough caffeine in the world. Looking forward to Saturday.

  5. Good Thursday morning, Meese! We’re having a fairish day in Ashburn and a current temp of 51 F. Later the temp. will rise to 80 F. Time to drag the skirts out of the closet!

    Last night I was in panic mode. I realized that I’m totally unprepared for a performance or even a dress rehearsal. Next week we start rehearsing 5 nights a week, and on April 6 we go off-book. From now until this play closes, I’ll have to eat, sleep, and breathe the script. (OK, but never again.) I have a whole list of other things I want to do when this is finished.

    My diabetes article was published in the community quarterly last week. Of the four persons I interviewed for it, only one had sufficient good manners to email me to say “thank you.” According to the notes of the meeting, which I did not attend, several new people showed up. If that article encourages people to get their A1C tested, it’s all to the good. I had mine tested and the results have made me change my ways somewhat.

    Wishing a good day to all at the Pond!

  6. It’s 68 heading for 88 and sunny. At least at the moment. Yesterday we generated 15.83 KWHs and the m-t-d at 293.89 gained another smidge. With 6 generating days left in March. We shall see what we shall see.

    Today it’s summer. Enough summer that I got the 1st & I hope last tick of the year on me. Sigh. Tomorrow’s high is forecast to be lower than what this morning’s low was. Springtime. If 2 months early.

    Today is my older son’s birthday. He drew his first breath 55 years and 55 minutes ago. He was 19″ long and just over 7 pounds. Now he’s 6’1 and just over 200 pounds – and getting his pilot’s license. Time, oh Time. . .

    Off to start my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  7. Good morning, 45 and partly cloudy. So nice to see some blue sky outside my windows today! Easter seems early this year, but it’s an easy one for us. We’ll have a family lunch at the bookstore cafe on Saturday, and then a Sunday supper with some traditional Easter dishes on Sunday. The freeway northbound is blocked with a major rock slide so Lisa and her family are staying home. 50,000 cars diverted through Fairhaven is making traffic an interesting challenge but so far the slope above the slide is too unstable to allow the freeway to open. I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed with home and garden work so it’s good to have a lowkey Easter this year. Best wishes to all.

    • Yikes, a rockslide sounds dangerous! I hope no one was under it! I also think that Easter feels early this year.

  8. Good morning, meeses! Thursday …

    It is 88 degrees on its way up to 93. Sunny skies are in the forecast. The moon is at first quarter and I saw her yesterday afternoon in the clear blue sky.

    Today is opening day for Major League Baseball. I am a lifelong fan, with a love of the game learned from my maternal grandfather and nurtured by my mother. We shared many conversations about our baseball teams, her Royals and my Brewers, over the years. I think of her often during the baseball season.

    Tonight my Wisconsin Badgers women’s basketball team hosts Hah-Vahd in Madison in the WBIT tournament. I am glad to have sports to distract me from the dumpster fires started by the garbage people of MAGAt America.

    See all y’all later!!

  9. Friday Meese. Looks like we will have a good weather day here in Kingston – 46 and no rain. Spending most of my day in meetings zoom and f2f.

  10. Good morning. The rally here isn’t at the Capital, it’s at what’s frequently a concert site by the lake. Way fewer places to sit. I’m still going, but I’ll pretty much check in then head back to the bus stop. But I’ve got to be part of it, if only for 15 minutes.

  11. Our high for the day was 76 just after midnight, it’s been falling ever since and is 57 right now. It’s supposed to stay that way until sundown then start dropping again. Overcast. I seriously doubt we’ll get any rain, which we need, but the clouds will be with us all day. Yesterday we generated 16.09 KWHs and the m-t-d is 309.98 so at least we’re over 300 with 5 more production days in March.

    My son got to fly yesterday but didn’t do the solo practices he’d originally planned. Instead he and his instructor went up together for him to practice cross-wind landings. Since the crosswinds were at something like 12 mph, gusting to 22, those landings weren’t the nice, normal 3-point jobs. They were “get the plane down safely, without hitting anything and on the assigned runway” jobs. And he did good.

    It’s Spring Break at UofA and the offices are closed today. And it’s not cold but still cool enough to make rooting around in a storage unit Natalia’s going to spend at least part of her morning doing that. She hasn’t been down there since before Xmas because whenever she had the time the weather wasn’t cooperative. Meanwhile I still have my boosting to do. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{HUGS}}}

  12. Good Friday morning, Moosekind! When I awoke at 6:30, the rain was beating down. It’s still raining at 9 a.m., then it’ll stop around noon and resume at 4 p.m. Right now it’s 64 F. in Ashburn but the temperature will drop through the day. Last night it was clear as could be when we came out of the show at the theater, and I saw Herself for the first time in weeks! A half-moon, absolutely lovely. My phone said She is at 60% luminescence.

    My friend and I had such a good time at dinner last night, and then the show. The artist entertained us by pretending to be Good Queen Bess, in Tudor costume, the accent, the vocabulary, the lot. The last time she was here, two years ago, she enacted Amelia Earhart and my friend and I really enjoyed that as well.

    Just made Banana-Walnut Bran Muffins for myself and the neighbors. Now drinking the last of the coffee I just made.

    Looks as if we’ll have a bloody cold morning for our “No Kings” demonstration tomorrow.

    Lots of chores today but I hope there will be time for exercise. If this nasty little cough doesn’t go away, I shall go mad. I don’t even think it’s a cough: it’s probably sinus drainage or something. Have no clue what to do about it.

    Wishing a good day for all at the Pond.

  13. Good morning, 37 and cloudy today. Bri was here yesterday afternoon so we have a pruning plan. The garden is going to look more controlled and less wild but it will be easier to care for and that’s the goal. I can tend to the patio containers and plants growing in the beds where the ground is flat but pruning plants on a ladder and/or slope is beyond me now so I’m grateful for Bri and her helpers. Best wishes to all.

  14. Good afternoon, meeses! Friday …

    It is 99 right now and sunny. I saw the over half illuminated moon straight up in the night sky before I went to bed last night.

    I am glad the weekend is finally here, I have not had time to work on my projects because of too many interruptions for issues, both client issues and personal accounting issues. Tomorrow and Sunday I can work to get caught up.

    See all y’all later!

  15. Saturday Meese. No Kings Day will be in full swing today. Quite a few demos in my area.

  16. Good morning. Excited for No Kings this afternoon. We had a cold front come in and it’ll only be 68 this afternoon, practically chilly. Still wearing sunscreen & taking a hat. It’s going to be great!

  17. Good Saturday morning, Meese! It’s a lovely morning but freezing—35 F. now, heading for 49 F. It would be bloody cold on this important day! Anotherdemocrat, thanks for the reminder about hats and sunscreen.

    I’ll wear a couple of layers. Having decided not to take a sleep aid of any kind, I was awake most of the night in the recliner. I might have had three hours’ sleep. I’ll have a little nap soon. I wish this thing I have would go away. I’m afraid to keep taking Dayquil and Nyquil, all those chemicals can’t be good. Only thing is, I took the two remaining Dayquil and immediately started feeling better. Bother! I coughed all night long too, a nasty little dry cough.

    Okay, time to stop whining. I hope everyone here will have a good day!

  18. It’s 38 heading for 65 and sunny. Yesterday we generated 2.5 KWHs (we got a whole.1″ of rain from all those clouds) and the m-t-d is 312.49 with 4 generating days left in March. It’s possible but exceedingly unlikely that we reach 360 by end of Tuesday. We shall see what we shall see.

    My body is not happy with all these temperature swings. Oh well. Not much I can do about it. Off to start my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
