Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: April 5th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

  1. Good “morning”, Motley Meese! The week begins …

    Morning low of 59 degrees in the Desert Southwest 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 84. Mostly sunny skies are in the forecast.

    Have a great day, all y’alls!!

  2. Good morning. Rain yesterday was lovely. Supposed to be more today, which is not great for Easter egg hunts, but we really need it. I had put most of my long sleeves away, I may have to dig 1 or 2 back out for next week.

  3. It’s 39 heading for 66 and sunny. Quite symbolic if one happens to be Christian that it be cloudy all of Holy Week then sunny on Easter. But the sun did come out yesterday after the rain stopped around 10 am (we got just over 2″ of very needed rain) and we generated 13.66 KWHs. The m-t-d at 45.92 is a full behind “on track”. We shall see what today brings.

    The lemon muffin cake – twice the butter & sugar of my “normal” recipe and baked in a square cake pan rather than bread pans – came out very nicely. Tastes good and the house still smells divine. We shall see if the extra butter keeps it from drying out in the fridge. Which is the purpose of this experiment. No problem about having a fire and doing laundry yesterday. Still some to hang up but I’ll do it later. Out of raisins so I put blueberries in my oatmeal instead. Makes for a purple-ish-blue breakfast but tasted good. Anyway, off to start my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  4. Good Sunday morning, Moosekind! We’re having a gray morning after namby-pamby sunshine, so it might actually rain. When I went for a walk yesterday I observed that we definitely need it. I checked the lilacs by the dog park yesterday and saw they haven’t even begun to bloom. However, the pink dogwood tree outside the Pub window has begun to blossom, and it’s great. Never can decide which is lovelier, the pink dogwood or the white. The white, I think. It’s more bridal-looking.

    Happy Easter to all who celebrate it! My niece, daughter-in-law, and I used to have such fun hiding eggs for The Littles at our house. It never seemed to rain those Easter Sundays at home. I’m excited that the first part of a three-part series on Shakespeare is airing tonight on PBS. (I’d better send them some money.) I stayed up WAY too late to watch the Parting of the Red Sea on TV last night, and then I was rudely awakened a couple of times by arthritis in my feet. Had to rub the HempVana into them to stop it.

    The Home is providing a big Easter buffet, for which I’ll have to start getting ready. I was planning to rehearse with my fellow actor this afternoon but I’m too tired. I must have a nap. I hope we can rehearse tomorrow, because when we get up on the stage we’ll be off-book.

    That’s all from me, wishing everyone at the Pond a good day!

  5. Good Easter Monday, Moosekind! Fair and quite chilly in Ashburn, 43 F. now. Our high will be 62 F. if we’re lucky.

    I forgot to take my evening assortment of pills last night, with the result that I didn’t sleep a wink. This is not good, as my team is the one that will rehearse the show tonight. Totally dreading it.

    It’s so exciting about the moon fly-by today! I’m loving the pictures of Earth. Have to admit, I watched the first part of “60 Minutes” last night because they revisited Remote Area Medical. One woman had driven 200 miles from Alabama to Knoxville and slept in her car for two nights so she’d be one of the first to be seen. Get this: she needed new dentures but couldn’t afford them. A man in a trailer fed her data into a 3-D printer and produced new dentures in ONE HOUR! Talk about the miracle of modern medicine! One is so filled with rage against the American medical system! Everyone should have health care, even if they’re poor. She was so grateful, the poor thing.

    Wishing a good day to all at the Pond.

  6. good Monday Meese.

  7. Good morning. Great walk, not one of my longest distances, but cloudless sky and looking up at the Moon. Thinking about the Artemis crew. Monday. Well, I’m wearing the socks someone gave me last week, and the sweet note, so today can’t be all bad.

  8. It’s 37 heading for 73 and sunny. Yesterday we generated 18.53 KWHs and the m-t-d at 64.46 gained a smidge. We shall see what today brings.

    I won’t call it the prime accolade but Natalia – who is not gluten-intolerant and so has “regular” baked goods to compare it to – said my lemon muffin/cake was good. 😁 I’m not crazy about having that much butter in it, but butter certainly does make a difference. As long as my gall bladder/pancreas doesn’t have a fit, we’ll go with it.

    I saw the moon this morning, in the southern sky just a bit to the west. In whatever phase She’s always lovely. And heart-lifting. Now I’d best be about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  9. Good afternoon, 43 and partly cloudy outside my windows today. The breeze is still chilly and the soil is wet and cold but spring has finally arrived and the garden is starting to grow. As expected the hard pruning on the ivy fences looks rough but it’s not finished so I’m not worried. Marcus will be here on Thursday to prune the hedges so the big garden work will all be done, yay! Ron has got the veggie garden ready to plant when the soil warms and I’m ok with waiting to plant some flowers. Feels good to have finally come to terms with a more simple gardening plan.

    We had a nice Easter this year, much more relaxed. Our family lunch at the bookstore cafe on Saturday was fun, and cooking brunch and doing a bit of gardening with our son was fun yesterday. Best wishes to all.

  10. Tuesday Meese. 34 going up to 43 today here in Kingston today

  11. Good morning. A cool morning but I slept in instead of walking. Watched the Artemis coverage last night, glad to see people excited about science. Since I don’t have a cable subscription any more, my MSNBC app stopped working, which I find confusing. A Blue Sky friend gave me a link to watch it on my computer, but it is frustrating.

  12. It’s 44 heading for 74 and sunny at the moment. Widget says clouds will move in shortly. sigh. Yesterday we generated 17.64 KWHs and the m-t-d at 82.09 gained another smidge.

    I look at the headlines on Rantt and sigh. There is a whole lot of evil in the world and a large percentage of it is being done in my name with my taxes dollars. But not Bezos et al tax dollars because they don’t pay any. So they get the benefit of the evil and we smucks get the bill. Very depressing. Since I can’t do anything about that I’ll do what I can. Which is boost folks. So I’d best be about that. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  13. Good morning, meeses! Tuesday and missed Monday …

    It is 72 degrees in Tucson with an expected daytime high of 82. Sunny skies are in the forecast. Yesteray it was cloudy all day with high winds in the evening. There was rain in the mountains to the north but none here.

    I am finishing up the second to last phase of a large project that required me to be eyes forward yesterday. It helps distract from the awfulness in the world. The problem is, of course, that even generic low taxes no regulation Republicans seem fine with getting embroiled in endless wars. Even if the orange malignancy kicks the bucket, Vance and Rubio will carry on the wars and hatedulness towards people of color and immigrants.

    I need to take my walk and then finish up delayed accounting projects.

    See all y’all later!

  14. Good morning, 46 and sunny in Bellingham today. Silly me, I keep reading the news and then wonder why I feel so depressed and worried. After lunch I’m going to go outside and tend to some plants. Best wishes to all.

  15. Wednesday Meese. We dropped back down to a hard freeze again here in Kingston – 27. I’m not planting anything till Memorial Day.

  16. Good morning. All I did yesterday was work. I am definitely going to kickboxing at lunch, I have got to leave my apartment.

  17. Good Wednesday morning, Moosekind! Yesterday morning was super busy, with balance class, then running to the bakery to order Shakespeare’s birthday cake—“How should we decorate it?” the baker asked. “Roses,” I said. “He loved roses.” Then I ran to the barbershop to ask for a slightly different hair style to go accommodate the black fedora I have to wear for my role as the Mysterious Man in the play. After that I came home and collapsed. In the evening I went out to dinner with my neighbor. Wore the Zodiac dress, which is warm, long-sleeved, and has designs of moons and stars on it. This was to honor the astronauts.

    It’s 35 frosty degrees F. in Ashburn, up from 32 F. at dawn. Beautifully sunny, as yesterday was, but more suited to late February than April. I can’t wait for it to become so hot that all I want is ice cubes for breakfast.

    Was awakened at 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. with awful pains in my feet. Dear old arthritis! This is how we get ready to depart Spaceship Earth, gradually falling apart. I pray to Goddess that I never have to push a walker ahead of me or become so overweight that I can’t walk and have to use an electric vehicle. Even if I can’t walk I can still row! Rowing is good.

    Still suffering from insomnia, planning to research it to see what causes it. Looking forward to Splashdown on Friday.

    Wishing a good day to all at the Pond!

  18. It’s 49 heading for 78 and sunny at the moment. Yesterday we generated 16.68 KWHs and the m-t-d at 98.78 gained another smidge.

    Bitter irony or something – Aji worked really hard, and a bunch of people donated probably more than they could afford, to fund the 1st chemo treatment for a 3 y.o. with cancer. The baby was allergic to the chemo drugs. Was. No more “is” for Baby Emily.

    Twitler being taco again is fine when it comes to what would have had to be nuclear annihilation of Iran. Because that’s the only way his threat could be actually carried out. Even carpet bombing wouldn’t do it. As evil and illegal as carpet bombing is. And of course the Market manipulators used that as an excuse to goose the Market up.

    I’m off to start my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
