Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).
The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.
So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. Good “morning”, Motley Meese! The week begins …
Morning low of 61 degrees in the Desert Southwest 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 86. Sunny skies are in the forecast.
Have a great day, all y’alls!!
Sunday Meese. 51 and raining here in Kingston.
Funeral Home today
{{{Dee}}} Losing an old friend is always hard. Even when you know they’re not really “gone”. Healing Energy. Moar {{{HUGS}}}
It’s 37 heading for 71 and sunny. At the moment. Yesterday we generated 16.16 KWHs and the m-t-d is 222.61 – a smidge of a gain.
Lit the fire yesterday afternoon, the heat just cycled on, and there’s still frost on the roofs that I can see from my west window. I’ll probably have a fire this evening as well. Then we’ll be back to warmer weather for the week. Not a lot warmer – we’ll only reach the upper 70s Thursday and be at the low-to-mid 70s the rest of the time. Overnights going from 45 to 63 and back again. Springtime. Except it started too early, most of the trees are fully leafed out now. Including the oak so it’s now blocking the morning sun on my PV system almost a month early. Sigh. Think I’ll make pork & refried bean soup for dinner. It suits the weather. LOL. Meanwhile I’d best be about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
I’ve made my gallon of tea, getting ready for church, thawing next week’s food. We had a cold front come through – 50 isn’t “cold” but it is a shock to the system after weeks of much warmer lows. Wearing long sleeves today, getting out my hoodie for tomorrow morning’s walk, and just prepping for the week. (my check in at the orange place has a bit of a rant about navigating the new site)

Good Sunday morning, Moosekind. After four attempts to log in, I’m in! Yay!
Yesterday it was 84 F. so I wore a summer maxi dress to dinner and the movie. This morning when I arose after a leg-crampy night, it was 60 F. Now the temp. has dropped to 49 F. I’ve put the little fake woodstove on. It’s raining, which we badly need.
Well, last night my friend and I went to see “Hamnet.” I was bored to the point of madness. Kept looking at my watch and thinking, “Oh, gods, another hour of this. Oh, hell, 45 minutes to go. Yay, only half an hour to go,” and so on. Have y’all seen it? I understand the actress who played “Agnes” won an Oscar, which she well deserves—I never watch the Academy Awards. There was one and only one truly effective scene in it, in my opinion, and I don’t see why they couldn’t have ended the film with an offstage quote: “Good night, sweet Prince, and may flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.”
Anyway, plans for the day include housework, dinner at home, study, and a nap so I can stay up late to watch “Shakespeare: The Rise of Genius” at 10 bloody p.m.
This on-again, off-again Strait of Hormuz thing is driving a lot of people cray-cray. He’ll do anything to avoid being had up on charges of child rape. If he doesn’t succeed in ending American civilization, robots taking over the world will. Ugh.
Wishing a good day to all at the Pond.
Monday Meese. 33 here in Kingston only going up to 45. It poured yesterday – no rain today.
just saw this
Good morning, meeses! Monday …
It is 64 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 86. Sunny skies are in the forecast. Clouds gathered last night towards the NE and looked stormy but it did not rain. The moon is at 12.9% illumination so she may be big enough to see her in the ENE sky about 40 minutes after she rises at 8:01am MST and then clears the mountains.
Nothing much to say. Things are pretty terrible for people who were just getting by with grocery prices and fuel prices rising. When this round of inflation hits rents and other more or less fixed costs, it will be a catastrophe. Of course, that will likely coincide with Democrats taking over at least the House and we will be blamed for everything that the orange garbage dumpster has done. I see no way out of the Iran war – there is literally no one capable of brokering a peace. What do they do, say “sorry we bombed the sh*t out of your country and threatened to nuke it, let’s just call the whole thing off”? Kee-riced.
I got a lot done over the weekend but not enough so I need to put my nose to the grindstone today. I am still monitoring the water issue that was supposedly resolved and I am not quite sure where we are with that. Today should give me more data.
See all y’all later!
Good morning. We’re getting nice steady rain. I had to do my walk inside the garage, but that’s a small price for rain. Maybe not enough to break the drought, but rain is rain and we’ll take it.
One widget says 41 & the other says 47 but they both say heading for 75 and sunny today. Yesterday we generated 18.7 KWHs, highest single day for April thus far, and the m-t-d at 241.31 is getting better.
I saw the moon last night from my bedroom west window for the first time in almost 2 weeks. A lovely crescent “Cheshire” moon as she was going down. So low in the sky that by the time I’d brushed my teeth and changed into my pajamas she had dropped below the trees. But I did see her. So that’s good.
The world is in seriously bad shape and the way off this road to Hell is certainly not apparent. We’ve blown by so many exits, accelerated at every tipping point. Me and mine are “alright right now” but there’s no way I’m going to do the wypipo complacent thing and think that means everything’s OK. I’m only OK because my Social Security is still coming in & I’m boosting to help too many people who need that help for food, medications, utilities, & rent. Which I’d best be about doing. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good Monday morning, Moosekind! Last night I stepped out onto the porch and there was a lovely, clear, midnight blue sky, with a Cheshire Cat slice of moon grinning down at me. Naturally, I bowed. The evening star was in a direct line below Her. What a treat! Have not seen Her for quite some time.
We have kind of a “meh” day here, weather-wise. Chilly breezes, high of 54 F. or something. Don’t like it. Woke up too early, but need to move on. Have a UU Covenant meeting from 10:00 to 11:30. Raoul is going to talk about resentment. I’m glad I did an hour of exercise yesterday because I doubt I’ll get to the gym today.
My team is not on tonight, but I’ll be at rehearsal anyway. There are three scenes that give everyone heartburn, so I’ll concentrate on getting those down. We open on April 23rd! Aieee! Two of my writers are coming to see me perform on April 24.
Wishing a good day and low gas prices to everyone at the Pond.
Tuesday: Cold again here in Kingston – 29 degrees. Should warm up a bit later.
I’m sick and tired of the blatant racism:
Just an extension of their leader’s “sh*hole countries” comment. I hope the god of these terrible people greets them at the pearly gates with a boot and a ticket to their hell.
Good morning. Yay for rain! And it isn’t the super-hard, flooding kind. Getting ready for wfh. I’ll rotate my plants out & back under cover to get some nice rain water. That’ll be my exercise for the day.
It’s 49 and sunny heading for 73 (and possibly/probably cloudy). Yesterday we generated 18.77 KWHs (the current highest single day for April) and the m-t-d at 260.07 is gaining. Slightly. We might manage to make it over 400 for the month. Maybe. We’ve got 10 production days left to try.
I saw the Cheshire moon again last night. She’s always lovely, at every phase. But it tickles me to think she’s smiling at us with that Cheshire moon. And gives me a certain sense of peace thinking of her agelessness. Anyway, I’d best be about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
I don’t have very good west views here without going outside and I am not too keen on meeting the javelinas roaming around in the late afternoon and into the night.
Understandable. I wouldn’t want to meet a javelina at close quarters either. I only have 1 east window and the house next door blocks the actual horizon and up a bit. But for 27 years, until the development to the west started last July, I had a clear view to the west. Even now although it’s a narrower view, I have a fairly decent view of the sky from just west of meridian to the tree line at the western horizon in the 50′ gap between the houses.
What’s a javelina?
It looks a lot like a wild pig. Native to the more desert areas of the U.S. & Mexico.
Good Tuesday morning, Meese! I put on a jacket and dark glasses, lurched down the hall to the polls, and voted YES. They had coffee at the literature station, but it was Republican coffee. I had freshly made Democratic coffee waiting for me at home. The Rethugs are muttering that Fairfax County has too much influence in elections. Cry harder! If we carry dark blue Arlington County and deep blue Fairfax County today, the referendum will win! Or rather, the issue will win and we’ll have five new Democratic districts. If it’s OK for Rethugs to do this in Texas, it’s certainly okay for us big, beautiful Virginians!
Saw Her again last night. What a treat! Probably will not see Her tonight because clouds will move in, so they say. Tomorrow it will rain, hurray! Right now it’s a miserable 36 F., on its way up to 60 F. However, it’s beautifully sunny.
Last night’s rehearsal ran 1 hour and 6 minutes, so we are reducing the run time. We’re still weak in the middle scenes. I DO wish the witches would get their lines right and say them faster—the rest of us can’t chime in if they don’t speak them exactly as the script has them. My colleague didn’t show up on time (he never reads his email so he didn’t know we were to start at 6 and that his team was on), so I took his place. I never get the Prologue quite right, it’s depressing. At least I got most of it right.
Well, I must get ready for balance class. Wishing a good day to all at the Pond!
Texas breaking the rules on redistricting and doing their sh*tlord’s bidding is turning out to be a net Republican loss. Good. There should be repercussions for breaking rules.
Good morning, 52 and cloudy in Bellingham today. Life in my small world has been busy and I’m weary but please projects are getting done. Ava is a great assistant…..the barbecue canopy is clean, pitch and pollen is scrubbed off the winter umbrellas, and best of all the side of the garage I see from the garden is being scraped and primed, yea!
Work in the garden continues as well…..I have clipped and cleaned the plants around the patios and the back steps and Bri will be here today to finish the ivy fence. I remain amazed re the amount of vegetation we have removed from the garden yet it doesn’t look bare. The ivy fence will need a few months to recover but it was way to big so cutting it back to human scale has been a challenge. I’m weary, but grateful to have a garden to tend. Best wishes to all.
You’ve been busy! Your garden sounds like a wonderful space.
Good afternoon, meeses! Tuesday …
The weather widget says 86 but the backyard thermometer says 93. I took my walk when the backyard thermometer was 88 and it was comfortable so maybe it was the cooler temperature.
I got some project work done yesterday, took a walk and then decided to put my feet up. That seemed like it worked well so I am doing it again today! I have one thing I should get done sooner rather than later but tomorrow is soon enough.
See all y’all later!

Wednesday Meese. 41 here in Kingston going up to 53.
And my old friend:
Good morning. Wet, foggy morning. Glad I have wfh today & not driving in this. Worked my butt off yesterday. Hope everyone has a good day today.
