Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).
The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.
So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?
…
NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

Have fun! {{{Dee}}}
It’s 72 heading for 80, overcast, and more rain in the forecast. We did actually get .8″ over the course of yesterday/early morning so that’s something. Yesterday we generated 6.27 KWHs and the m-t-d at 81.29 lost more ground. At this point it would take a full week of 20-KWH days and no more losses to catch up. sigh.
Not sure I’ll be able to get up the energy to vacuum today – which the house badly needs – but I think I can manage pork veggie soup for dinner with chocolate pudding for desert. I think. Meanwhile, I’d best be about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good morning. Watching cycling for the first time this season, all the other races have been on apps I don’t have or premium stuff. Not even sure which Americans are in this one, but I’m just enjoying my one sporting thing. Tea is made. We’re celebrating Pride at church this morning, so that will be fun.
Good morning, 52 and cloudy in Bellingham. It’s been raining in the night so thankfully the garden is not dry. Our son was working on a roof project last week and a heavy ladder fell over and hit him head on. He has a concussion, a broken nose, 5 cracked ribs, and some internal bruising and bleeding. The hardest part is intense pain that is keeping him from being able to move. The injuries will all heal but he’s got a slow recovery ahead so when he can he will come here until he can manage living alone. We have the house ready with a bed in the library, bathroom supports in place etc. I took photo’s of the set up so he can share them with his doc’s and PT. I hope we pass muster because the alternative is a rehab facility in a neighboring county. If he needs that level of care it will be arranged but if he can recover closer to home it will be best for him.
Lisa will come today to take Elsa home with her for a few weeks. We will all miss her but Ron and I need to focus on taking care of Hans. And a full body love from Elsa would do him now. So between icing my knees and coping as best I’m basically ok, just really tired. Best wishes to all.
I’m so sorry he’s in pain, but glad for him that he has you. I hope your house passes muster, it would surely be the best place.
Hoping for a quick and complete recovery for Hans. I am glad you and Ron are able to offer him a place to rehab where he will be loved and cared for.

Oh, princesspat, what a horrible thing to happen to your son! Let’s hope he can recover smoothly and quickly with your excellent care. Wonder what they’ll give him for the pain.
Prayers lifted for Hans.

Good morning. Did my walk, it was already 79 degrees at 5 am, how depressing. Nothing much going on here. Have as god a day as a Monday can be.
It’s already 75 heading for 88, heat index 97. Very overcast – storm watch with a 25% chance of rain (snort) – and the breeze makes it seem cooler. Yesterday we generated 8.2 KWHs and the m-t-d at 89.48 lost a bunch more ground. The PV system is capable of generating 25 KWHs in a day this time of year. It has to have a lot of sunshine to do it. sigh.
The daily overcast is not helpful for my mood either. Or my energy levels. Oh well. I’ve closed up the house. Need to call the vent guy today to see when he’s coming – a piece of the HVAC vent has to be removed (and capped) so the plumber can get to all the drain pipes that need replacing and he’s scheduled to be here Thursday morning. Other than dealing with not letting water go down the kitchen sink – and doing the laundry at the laundromat tomorrow – things are normal. Mostly. Anyway I’d best be about my boosting day. It takes longer to set up now that I’m doing MA threads on 2 sites. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good Monday morning, Moosekind! Thrilled that today’s high is going to be 79 F. because there’s a concert on the lawn, and thrilled because golden sunshine is highlighting the greenwoods across the way against a cloudless blue sky. Sometimes life is good when one’s email is not being molested by nefarious Nigerians.
Younger Son came over with wife and grandson yesterday (Nora was working at Harris Teeter), and we had a nice early dinner. Younger Son went through the torturous process of getting a new password for Yahoo, so I can get into my mail again! Only problem: my email is going through Nefarious Nigerian’s email, which is hotmail. Oh, well, IT support is coming over at 10 a.m.
It’s so nice to have my Yahoo email back. I was so lonely without it! On the agenda for today are reading through my writers’ essays (we meet on Thursday), editing the book, and attending the concert at 3 p.m. I am gaining weight like nobody’s business! It’s awful.
Also on the to-do list: making a lavender simple syrup to mix with Paul Newman’s lemonade (I’m too lazy to make lemonade from scratch and Paul’s is the best I’ve ever tasted). I’ll serve the lemonade at my writers’ meeting on Thursday along with lavender scones, clotted cream, and either raspberry jam or lemon curd.
Wishing a good day to all at the Pond!
Good morning, 50 and cloudy in Bellingham today. The docs finally found a med combo to control pain so Hans can move and walk with support and our prep passed muster, so he was released from hospital yesterday. The biggest hurdle was getting him from the street to our house so Erich (son#2) solved that by driving his truck over the sidewalk an trough the garden to the lower patio where Hans managed to move to a transporter chair and we wheeled him into the house, yay! And no plants were harmed in the process. He is battered and bruised but I think the worst is over.
Elsa is with Lisa now and is just fine. She was alarmed when I packed her food, toys, and kennel but when she realized she was going too she didn’t look back. She will stay with Lisa for a few weeks. Thanks to all for your kind words of support.
I hope Hans and Elsa are reunited soon! Dogs are great healers.
Good monday Folks
Puerto Rico
Good evening, meeses! Monday …
It is 96 degrees after it was as high as 106 in mid-afternoon. I am looking forward to the monsoon which will begin EXACTLY next Monday, June 15. Rain, we need you!
I kept trying to find the time to check-in and between dealing with waking up too early and not rested, planned and unplanned errands and a fractured day, here it is 5:50pm!!
I found out that the Albuquerque AAA minor league baseball team is named the Isotopes! Apparently there is a major national research lab there. Good for them not going for an easy name like Mudhens and making people look up what Isotopes are.
I am watching some WNBA games and planning to watch MLB baseball if I can stay up longer enough. My team is playing in Las Vegas in an outdoor stadium so think it is starting at 8pm local time so that it is not so hot.
See all y’all later!
I was watching the Liberty v Sun game and when it ended, I noticed that the Mystics had come back against the Fever after Kiki’s injury and were up by 1. I flipped over to the game and jinxed them! They lost in the worst possible way and now I will have nightmares!
Tuesday Meese
I was actually in NYC for the Puerto Rican Day Parade one year, and as Dearly and I stood in the crowd, watching, the man in front of me turned to the old woman on his left and said, “Abuela…” and I thought that was the most beautiful word I’d ever heard.
Knicks
I heard that ticket re-sales were tanking. No one wanted to get stuck in security hell and miss most of the game – plus the ODOR!!
Good morning. Getting ready for wfh, I have several reminders up to go to the gym at lunch; we’ll see if they work. We have so many applications for new library users, it is heartening but also overwhelming since there’s only 3 of us. Also, people neither answer their phones nor listen to messages.
I know. Makes me wanna holler.
It’s 77 heading for 90 heat index 97 and sunny at the moment. It’s mostly going to stay that way. After a very dark morning yesterday – and over an inch of rain – the sun more or less came out and we generated 11.34 KWHs. The m-t-d at 100.82 lost more ground.
Natalia and I keep reminding ourselves and each other how lucky we are that the plumbing issue is only the kitchen and not the bathrooms and doesn’t require that we haul in water as well as hauling the kitchen waste water out. And that it’s only a couple more days. The vent guy will be here tomorrow afternoon. I’m thinking of dialing down the thermostat before he gets here to really cool down the house. But that’s during the absolutely hottest part of the day – when one should be dialing the thermostat UP to save electricity and stress on the A/C unit. Maybe, since he’ll be capping off the ends of the vents to keep smells & vermin out, we’ll be able to get A/C in part of the house. I need to ask him when he gets here. Thursday the plumber will replace the rusted-out drain pipes then text the vent guy to come back and reinstall the vent section. So. I’ll be over soon. Almost clear my savings account but over. Better not be any more emergencies this year though.
I’ve a bunch of errands to do later today and laundry at the laundromat tonight. Meanwhile I’d best be about my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing/Protecting Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
IT will be over soon. (The things I don’t see until I hit post. . . )
Good luck! Home ownership depleting my savings was why I sold and chose to rent for the rest of my life. Renting has its own drawbacks but between house repairs and property taxes, I was going to have emptied my tiny retirement savings accounts within about 5 years with no way to replenish them.
I’m very lucky with my situation. This is the first really bill (as in 4-figures to fix) issue that isn’t covered by insurance. That may be because I did a lot of maintenance upgrades in that narrow band of years between when I paid off the mortgage and retired. Helped by the fact that for 5 of those years I was getting a small 2nd salary from being a JP. And the AR property tax rate is so low that comparatively speaking it might as well not exist. My annual taxes this year are under $600. So basically I’m OK on my Social Security most of the time. What’s been sucking my retirement savings down is car repairs. (If it’s not one thing, it’s another. Right?)
Good Tuesday morning, Meese. It’s a nugly day in Ashburn, 69 F. and overcast. Going to stay that way all day.
Last night I did something incredibly stupid, even for me. I fell asleep after dinner, then woke up and started reading a novel. Admittedly, reading fiction is my drug of choice. It’s what I do instead of sex, drugs, and alcohol. Stayed up until 1:15 a.m. I am stupid!
Also, when I got on the scales this morning I nearly fainted. Open Mic night is 2 weeks away! I just threw away all the chocolate in my house. From now on breakfast will be Something. Lunch, plain Greek yogurt and fruit. Dinner, salad and a workout in the gym. I MUST be able to get into the beautiful Poison Tiara, the floaty dark blue and silver dress, and the silver dancing shoes.
Meanwhile, back at the ranch, I spent a miserable, frustrating day waiting for IT Support to show up, which they allegedly were going to do at 10 a.m. However, at 1 p.m. I opened the door in response to a knock to find a skinny child with long black hair hanging down her back staring at me. “Can I come in?” she finally asked. “By all means,” I said. I’d been expecting Josh, who is at least 6 feet tall, middle-aged, and so forth.
She cleaned up my PC, pointing out that someone had signed a passkey in Ibhahan and Lagos, Nigeria. Now that my machine is clean, he won’t be able to read my emails.
She did a couple of other things, then asked me to sign the form on the tablet, said, “You’re good. Stress less,” and departed. That was one terse young woman!
The concert on the lawn was a disaster, in my opinion. They sang OFF-KEY! Good thing it was free. Would have hated to pay for it.
Princesspat, so glad Hans is with you! Is his bed positioned so that he can see your beautiful garden out the window? Has he all sorts of amusements such as books, mags, chat with the parents, a TV, and so on? Prayers going up daily for him and for you, too, incidentally.
Bfitz, I do hope your problem gets solved and everything will be back to normal!
Jan, sorry it’s so hot. My daughter used to go for walks on sweltering nights in Austin, but she carried two guns with her and knew how to use them. I don’t suppose you’d do anything like that.
Wishing a good day to all at the Pond!
No, I am not much of a gun person. I don’t think I could shoot anyone or any thing so why bother? I have stairs and several long hallways and I am going to map out a path that gives me about a half mile to keep my legs stretched out. Once I get my big project done, I can walk in the early morning again.
Good morning, meeses! Tuesday …
It is 88 degrees on the weather widget and 104 on the backyard thermometer. I am skipping my morning walk and will do steps indoors for my exercise. I have to leave shortly to get my hairs cut and that will be the extent of my outdoor exercise.
There will be No Kings rallies in Tucson on Sunday. One will be not too far from here and I might attend. It is early enough to be unlikely to be rowdy. Maybe rally then get a carryout breakfast at the little diner nearby?
I have a project to do but I need a big chunk of time to work on it properly. I will try to do it tomorrow morning assuming that Microsoft Patch Tuesday does not turn my day into a hash.
See all y’all later!
We are under a heat advisory here in Kingston today

Good morning. I made it to the gym yesterday, yay me. As I get used to going, I’ll get more efficient; yesterday was just about actually doing it. It hasn’t been the best week, three people I know, all of whom were pillar-of-the-community types, have died. One woman had literally that morning received an award for 20+ years of volunteering every week feeding homeless people. We are in the worst timeline and I wish I could switch to a different one.
